COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr track & field team was back at it earlier Saturday, as the Owls competed at the Ursinus Outdoor Invitational. There were plenty of great performances on the day for Bryn Mawr, with numerous PRs and Centennial Conference qualifications along the way.
The Owls started things off in the 10k, where Izzy Ravaglia and Camryn Karis-Sconyers both set personal records in the longest distance on the track. Ravaglia had perhaps the race of the weekend for the Owls, running a 42:54.88 in the event to finish first place and qualify for the conference championships. Karis-Sconyers also had a great race, finishing in third with a time of 45:54.57, which is just a minute off of the qualifying time.
The Owls also put up some season bests in the sprint side, but according to Bryn Mawr head coach Jason Hewitt, "It was a hard day to be a sprinter!" Despite the challenges, there were still plenty of great performances. Colby Rossmassler had a fantastic day, as she dropped time in the 100 meter hurdles for the third week in a row. Rossmassler ran a 19.79 on this day, her first time sub-20 and good enough to qualify for Championships as well.
Not satisfied with just that performance, Rossmassler went out and posted a personal record in the 100 meter dash as well. The first-year ran a 15.12 in the event, good enough for that PR performance.
Margaret Hardigg continued her impressive start to the season in the high jump, as the Owls junior reset the school record in the event for the third straight week. Hardigg won the event today by topping 1.62 meters on her third attempt. That mark is not only a brand new school record, but is also the best in the Centennial Conference and one of the top 20 heights in all of Division III in the event so far this season.
In the mid-distance, the Owls' group looked strong on the day. Bethany Quist set a new collegiate PR in the 800 meter run, posting a 2:34.00 in the event. Alex deLeuze also grabbed a collegiate PR in the event with a 2:54.56. The 1500 meter run saw Bryn Mawr set a bunch of PRs as well. Sam Lyster led the way for Bryn Mawr with a personal record time of 5:28.91, while Amelia McDonnell (5:32.03), Willa Sippel (5:32.98), Evelyn Cheng (5:39.69), Carey Parker (5:41.53), Kira Elliot (6:05.13) and Alex Rosen (6:15.26) all set PRs as well.
Ella Heipt was Bryn Mawr's lone entry into the 5k, but the junior went out and posted a new personal record of her own with a 22:09.48.
Over at throws, Sydney Collins made the finals in both the shot put and discus. Collins grabbed a sixth-place finish in shot with a long of 10.52 meters and another sixth-place finish in discus with a long of 31.09 meters. Allison Mead threw three events on the day for the Owls, setting a personal record in both discus (23.00 meters) and hammer throw (18.61 meters). Nora Steil also had a solid day in the discus (20.50 meters) and set a new collegiate personal record in the shot put (8.06 meters).
Bryn Mawr will continue their season next week with a trip to Gwynedd Mercy on Thursday. The Owls will compete at the annual Gwynedd Mercy Midweek Twilight Invitational on April 14, with the meet set to kick off at 3:00 PM in Gwynedd Valley.
