ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr track & field team continued their spring season earlier Saturday afternoon with a trip up to Allentown for the Muhlenberg Invitational. There were plenty of fast times and great marks on the day, highlighted by a pair of brand new school records for the Owls.
One of the big highlights on the day was Bryn Mawr's distance medley relay, which saw a quartet of Owls team up to smash the school record in the event. Amelia McDonnell, Kass Wojcik, Lauren Kitay, and Malin Just made up the DMR squad, and those four Owls combined to run a 13:33.10 in the event. Not only was that good enough for a sixth place finish, but it also is a brand new school record for Bryn Mawr, topping the previous best set all the way back in 2004 by over 20 seconds.
The other major highlight on the day for the Owls was another new school record in the high jump for Margaret Hardigg. A week after breaking one of the oldest school records in existence, the Owls junior went out today and topped her own mark in the same event. Hardigg claimed second place on the day, clearing a high of 1.59 meters to earn that finish and set a new program record in the process.
Over in the discus, Sydney Collins earned a sixth place finish in her first time competing in the event collegiately. The junior threw a long of 33.48 meters to take the top ten finish. Nora Steil (21.55m) and Allison Mead (21.11m) also competed in the event, with Mead setting a new collegiate PR and Steil also competing in the event for the first time as an Owl.
That same trio competed in the shot put as well, with similar results. Collins once again took sixth place with a long of 10.48 meters, while Steil (8.02m) and Mead (7.68m) both set collegiate PRs in the event as well.
Kris Pasia took seventh in the 100 meter dash for the Owls, crossing the line in a time of 13.53 seconds. Kayla Camille (13.75) and Colby Rossmassler (15.31) also competed in the event, with all three of the Owls setting collegiate personal records. Rossmassler also raced in the 100 meter hurdles on the day, posting a time of 20.80 seconds in the event and setting a new collegiate PR by almost a full second.
Hardigg paired her new high jump record with a nice finish in the triple jump as well, posting a long of 9.62 meters to take eighth place on the day in the event.
Kass Wojcik wrapped up a top-ten finish in the 200 meter dash, crossing the line in 27.19 to take tenth place in the event. That time was a new outdoor season best for the senior so far in 2022. Wojcik was joined by Kayla Camille (28.80) and Alex deLeuze (29.06) in the event, with Camille just missing out on a new collegiate PR by .01 of a second and deLeuze setting a new collegiate PR with her finish.
Pasia backed up her strong showing in the 100 meter dash by finishing 12th in the 400 meter dash, finishing that event in a time of 1:04.31. Bethany Quist finished just behind in 20th in the event, running a new collegiate PR of 1:07.15.
Carey Parker and Willa Sippel finished back-to-back in the 800 meter, with Parker running a 2:35.27 and Sippel posting a 2:35.55. For Sippel, the time was a new collegiate PR, while Parker's time was a new outdoor season best for the senior.
Camryn Karis-Sconyers paced a trio of Owls in the 1500 meter run, taking 18th place in a time of 5:34.08. Sam Lyster (5:34.59) and Ella Heipt (6:01.25) finished close behind, with all three Owls setting collegiate PRs in the event.
Evelyn Fort (21.19) and Evelyn Cheng (21.44) finished 12th and 14th in the 5k for the Owls, with each competing in the event for the first time in their careers.
Mead also competed in the javelin throw for the first time collegiately, throwing a long of 15.50 meters in the event. DeLeuze competed in the high jump for the first time collegiately as well, posting a long of 4.00 meters to take 14th in the event.
The Owls will look to keep the good vibes going next week when they travel to Collegeville for the Ursinus Outdoor Invitational next Saturday.
