Bryn Mawr Rowing Posts Best-Ever Finish at Head of Schuylkill Regatta

Owls junior rower Anne Meyer contributed greatly to this regatta recap

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr rowing team took to the water earlier Saturday afternoon, as the Owls took part in a regatta for the first time since early in the spring of 2020. Bryn Mawr featured two boats in action at the Head of the Schuylkill regatta, with each coming away with impressive results on the afternoon.

Competing in the Women's Club Championship Eights against teams from numerous other NCAA institutions across all three divisions, the Owls' Varsity 8+ boat put on a tremendous performance. Bryn Mawr took eighth place overall in the event, but finished as the second-fastest Division III boat in the event just behind the A boat from the University of Rochester. Overall, Bryn Mawr finished in a time of 13:31.208, just five seconds behind the time of the Rochester boat and more than enough to beat out teams from La Salle, the U.S. Military Academy, Georgetown, and Division III foes St. Mary's (Md.) and Catholic. The finish was also the best that Bryn Mawr's varsity boat has placed at the Head of the Schuylkill regatta.

Bryn Mawr's Novice 8+ boat was also in action in the Women's College Frosh/Novice Eights event, where they too put together a strong showing. That boat finished 12th overall and was the fourth-fastest Division III boat in the event, finishing in a time of 16:38.116. That was good enough to beat out other Novice 8s from Thomas Jefferson and Fordham as well as Division III opponents Stockton and Franklin & Marshall.

"The team was very excited," stated Owls junior Anne Meyer. "The other boats heard many Anass' today as the team cheered each other on."

The result closes out the competitive fall campaign for Bryn Mawr rowing, but the team will be right back in action in the spring for their championship season. The Owls will open their spring efforts by competing at the Murphy Cup Regatta on March 26, 2022.
