Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md.- Looking to bounce back after a tough loss to nationally ranked #11 Ursinus, the Bryn Mawr field hockey team took to the road to face McDaniel in Centennial Conference action. While the game got off to a slow start, goals by the Owls in both the second and third quarters proved to be enough to take down the Green Terror, 2-0. Eva Yacura led the Bryn Mawr team with five shots, while Hazel Miller and Olivia Supron picked up one goal each.
McDaniel hoped to take an early lead on the Owls a mere 30 seconds into Saturday evening's contest, but goalkeeper Maggie Titus landed her first save of the game. Bryn Mawr responded with three straight penalty corners from Ryann McManus and Paige Schaefer with Sara Rilatt looking to capitalize on the third one with a shot that was stopped by McDaniel goalkeeper Mikayla Smith. Schaefer kept the penalty corners coming as she'd fire off three more the remainder of the quarter, and while Yacura was there twice to unleash a shot on Smith, both were saved, and the score remained at 0-0 after one.
The Owls took control of the game in the second quarter as they began an offensive attack that led to their first goal of the game. Novy Goetgeluk was first to take shots as she'd fire one that went wide and another minutes later off a penalty corner by Schaefer that was saved. However, as the ball ricocheted off Smith's chest, Miller was there for the rebound and nailed the back of the cage for her fifth goal this season. With momentum swayed the Owls' way, Yacura looked to seize the opportunity to put Bryn Mawr ahead by two with her third shot of the game, but Smith would land her fifth save, keeping the score at 1-0 going into halftime.
Yacura kept the pressure coming after the half as she'd take her fourth shot less than three minutes into the third. Schaefer followed with her continued flurry of penalty corners with back-to-back efforts, however McDaniel seemed to be one step ahead as they'd hold the Owls from any goal-scoring opportunity. Bryn Mawr gained the advantage though minutes later as Supron tipped in a long hit from Kate Ervin and put the Owls up by two with roughly a quarter and a half to go. While the Green Terror's Tenley Pelot took a shot looking to close the Owls' lead by one, the shot went wide and the quarter came to an end with the Owls up by two.
With 15 minutes of gameplay remaining, McDaniel attempted to get momentum going with two shots from Emma Legacy, one of which was saved by Titus and the other out wide. However, these were the only shots the Green Terror found the rest of the game as a strong Owls defense managed to intercept the ball wherever they could to give the offense another chance to score. Yacura and Rosa Cochran both took shots in hopes of taking a three-goal lead on the Green Terror and Paige Schaefer added four more penalty corners to her repertoire for the night before the scoreboard hit 0:00.0 and the Owls reigned victorious.
The Owls continue on the road this week as they head to Allentown to face Muhlenberg College Wednesday, October 20 under the lights at 7:30 PM.
