BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr field hockey team opened the 2026 season against Stockton, falling 2-1 in a tightly-contested battle with the Ospreys at Shillingford Field on Thursday afternoon.

Highlights:
- Stockton (2-0) put the pressure on Bryn Mawr (0-1) throughout the first quarter, forcing sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Wright to make a trio saves in the opening frame.
- The second quarter saw level playing from the Ospreys and the Owls as both sides managed four shots. BMC recorded the only two shots on goal in the frame, both coming off the stick of junior Addison Graupensperger.
- Bryn Mawr took hold of the momentum in the second half, outshooting SU 7-2. Â A corner for the Owls at the 37:29 mark set the stage for an offensive outburst for the home side. Lucie Burgess fired off a pair of shots on goal before drawing a second corner the gave the junior forward on more shot on goal, being turned away by Stockton's Delfina Vanelli.
- The Ospreys broke the deadlock at the 49:48 mark, as Brooke Ruiz capitalized on scramble in front of the cage to give the visitors the lead. Stockton extended its lead to two at the 56:54 mark thanks to a goal from Emmah Devlin.
- Bryn Mawr responded quickly by drawing a corner with less than two minutes to play. Sophomore Carrie Povich inserted the corner to Julia Ward, who fired a shot on target and found the stick of Povich in front for the deflection to make it 2-1. The assist for Ward marked the first-career point for the Cincinnati native.
- The Owl kept the pressure on the Ospreys until the final whistle, ultimately falling 2-1 in the season opener.
- Wright finished the contest with six saves in her first career start. Burgess led the team with four shots on goal while Graupensperger tallied six total shots and three shots on goal.
Bryn Mawr is back at Shillingford Field on Sunday, September 6 as it hosts Wellesley College at 1 p.m.
