Owls Battle Muhlenberg in Tough Centennial Conference Tilt

Box Score

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr lacrosse team took their recent win streak on the road with them earlier Saturday afternoon. The Owls were looking to pick up their third win in a row, but Muhlenberg threw a wrench in those plans. The Mules jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the contest and never looked back, ultimately hanging on for an 18-4 victory on the day. Erica Dwyer led the Owls with a pair of goals, while goalkeeper Katie Alpert continued to stuff the stat sheet with a 13-save effort in the cage for Bryn Mawr. Muhlenberg got five goals from Casey Armstrong en route to their 11th win of the season.

The hosts got on the board a minute-and-a-half into the game on a goal from Brigid Noone to make it 1-0 early on. Muhlenberg (11-3, 4-3 CC) continued to roll offensively over the opening ten minutes of play, ultimately increasing their advantage out to 6-0. Bryn Mawr (6-9, 0-8 CC) was finally able to answer back just a minute later, however, as Fiona Steele tallied her 31st goal of the season. The Owls' leading scorer found the back of the net once again today, tallying an unassisted goal off of a Mules turnover caused by Caroline Bach.

Muhlenberg would answer with two more goals of their own, but then Dwyer got on the scoreboard for the Owls. Once again, Bryn Mawr turned an opponent turnover into points, as they got the ball upfield to Dwyer. The freshman was able to fire a shot past Kiersten Mulvey for Bryn Mawr's second goal of the day. After the hosts responded with three more goals, it was the turn of another freshman to get on the board. This time, Dwyer made a great pass to Oona Ryle, and she made a nice move to get around her defender and fire the ball home to make it an 11-3 game.

Bryn Mawr would open the second half with some positive momentum, as the Owls were the first team to get on the board after the break. After yet another Muhlenberg turnover, the Owls cleared the ball downfield. It ended up on the stick of Steele, who earned an assist by finding a cutting Dwyer. She tallied her second goal of the day with a strong shot, and that drew the Owls back within eight. However, that would be as close as the visitors would get, as Muhlenberg would close the game the way they opened it. Six straight goals for the hosts brought the final to 18-4.

Bryn Mawr will be right back in action next week, returning to non-conference play on Tuesday afternoon. The Owls will travel to Maryland for a contest against Notre Dame (Md.). Tuesday's game will start at 4:30 PM.
