LANCASTER, PA- Bryn Mawr fell to Franklin & Marshall, 71-42, at the Mayser Center Saturday afternoon. The Owls managed to collect 11 steals, collecting more than their season average of 7 per game, and tallied 14 points off turnovers, but could not overcome the Diplomats' offensive pace.
Jenna Vollor finished with a double-double chipping in 13 points, and grabbing 12 rebounds, including five on the offensive glass.
Jenny Briggs scored 12 points and recorded three steals, making three of her six attempts from beyond the arc.
Hannah Mack tallied 10 points and added five steals with four rebounds.
How it Happened:
- Bryn Mawr started strong with Briggs leading the charge, hitting two crucial 3-pointers early in the quarter. The team capitalized on turnovers, with Mack and Briggs combining for key steals that turned into points to keep the Owls in the lead. Despite their offensive push, Franklin & Marshall's 3-pointer late into the shot clock shifted momentum. Michelle Jiang assisted on a go-ahead 3-pointer by Briggs, pushing Bryn Mawr ahead 11-9 midway through the quarter. Maddy Patel closed the gap with two free throws, but the Diplomats responded with a 3-pointer in the closing seconds, ending the quarter with a narrow 20-17 lead.
- Franklin & Marshall came out of the second quarter with a strong scoring drive, extending their lead early through successful shooting in the paint. The Owls struggled to maintain possession, resulting in seven turnovers that limited scoring opportunities. Throughout the frame, Bryn Mawr managed to make key defensive stops, including a block by Jiang, with Vollor leading the effort on the boards. In the latter half of the quarter, Bryn Mawr found some rhythm with a 3-pointer by Jiang and a jumper by Vollor, cutting into the deficit slightly. However, the Diplomats found success scoring from the bench that helped maintain pressure on fast breaks. Heading into the halftime break, Franklin & Marshall lead 41-26.
- Bryn Mawr came out in the third quarter with a strong defensive effort, securing multiple steals, including Jiang's at 8:45, which led to a fastbreak layup by Vollor. Although the Owls faced pressure, Bryn Mawr managed to capitalize on Franklin & Marshall's turnovers, with Mack securing a steal and scoring a fastbreak layup at 3:58. Franklin & Marshall responded with a stronger presence in the paint, capitalizing on second-chance opportunities and adding to their lead with a 3-pointer at 4:28. By the quarter's conclusion, Bryn Mawr trailed, with the scoreboard reading 53–34 in favor of the home team.
- Franklin & Marshall started the fourth quarter with a strong offensive push with a 3-pointer just 13 seconds in, followed by a series of successful shots that grew their lead. Despite Bryn Mawr's attempts to counter, turnovers and missed opportunities hindered their progress. Bryn Mawr managed to find some rhythm as the quarter progressed, with Mack contributing a jumper and later cashing in a layup. Jiang supported with both a defensive rebound and an assist, but these efforts were not enough to close the gap. Franklin & Marshall's consistent scoring, including a layup and free throws late in the frame, kept the lead secure. The Diplomats walked away with a final score of 71-42.
