Owls Display Defensive Intensity Despite Setback to McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, MD — Bryn Mawr College competed in their final away game of the 2025-26 season earlier Wednesday as the Owls faced off against McDaniel College in the Gill Center. The Owls totaled 30 rebounds and outscored the Green Terror 9-8 in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to quell McDaniel's decisive lead as the hosts secured a 71–29 decision.

Hannah Govert recorded six points and two steals, contributing on both ends of the court. Bridget Barron added six points and collected six rebounds, providing a strong presence in the paint. Sena Kaper-Dale was efficient, scoring five points on perfect shooting.

How It Happened:
  • Bryn Mawr opened the first quarter with a scoring play as Maddy Patel connected on a 3-pointer at 8:24, assisted by Govert. Despite early efforts, the Owls struggled with turnovers, committing seven in the quarter, which limited scoring opportunities. The Owls managed to convert three baskets, with Cameron Richter and Kaper-Dale adding points later in the period. Defensively, the team faced challenges containing McDaniel's offense, which capitalized in the paint, scoring 20 points. Bryn Mawr ended the quarter trailing, with the scoreboard reflecting a 31–7 deficit.
  • Bryn Mawr faced a challenging second quarter as McDaniel took control early, extending the Green Terror lead. Govert scored a layup at 9:31, contributing to Bryn Mawr's points in the paint. McDaniel capitalized on turnovers and second-chance opportunities, creating a significant scoring gap. Despite defensive efforts, including steals by Sydney Gelhar and Govert, Bryn Mawr did not manage to halt McDaniel's momentum. The Green Terror maintained their advantage by successfully converting fast breaks and 3-pointers, closing the quarter with a 49-14 lead.
  • Bryn Mawr opened the third quarter with defensive intensity, as Hannah Mack recorded a key block early on. Jenna Vollor contributed offensively with a timely jumper, cutting into McDaniel's lead. Despite Bryn Mawr's efforts, turnovers hindered their momentum as McDaniel capitalized on second-chance opportunities. Mack and Gelhar each added crucial points, but McDaniel extended their advantage with efficient shooting, highlighted by a 3-pointer from Elaina Beckett. Bryn Mawr's defensive resilience showed with steals from Govert and Mack, but McDaniel maintained their offensive edge. The quarter concluded with Bryn Mawr trailing, 63-20.
  • Bryn Mawr began the fourth quarter with a defensive rebound by Kayla Spencer, setting a positive tone. Despite turnovers, the team managed to capitalize in the paint, with Barron contributing significantly with a layup and a jumper. Gelhar assisted on one of Barron's baskets, showcasing effective teamwork during the period. Bryn Mawr's defense held McDaniel to eight points in the quarter, matching their opponent's effort in the paint with eight points of their own. The team continued to battle, cutting into McDaniel's lead with a score of 71-29 at the final buzzer.
