Bryn Mawr Basketball Returns to Action After Break

MADISON, NJ — Bryn Mawr basketball opened the post–winter break portion of their schedule on the road Monday afternoon, showing resilience and late-game fight despite a 69–59 setback to Fairleigh Dickinson University–Florham at the Ferguson Recreation Center. The Owls put together a strong fourth-quarter push, outscoring the Devils 20–16 in the final frame, but did not manage to fully overcome the deficit built earlier in the contest.

Despite the loss, the Owls played a strong game as Jenny Briggs led the team with 15 points, shooting 5-for-13 from the field and adding two 3-pointers. Michelle Jiang contributed 11 points and collected eight rebounds, including three on the offensive end. Jenna Vollor posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while also making six of seven free throws and recording three steals. Hannah Mack added seven points and blocked two shots, bolstering the defensive effort.

How It Happened:
  • Bryn Mawr started the first quarter with a solid defensive effort, grabbing eight defensive rebounds. Hannah Govert contributed by assisting two baskets, including a key 3-pointer by Mack at the 7:00 mark, which tied the game at 5–5. Despite turnovers, the Owls maintained competitiveness through Cameron Richter's and Maddy Patel's scoring in the paint. Briggs added crucial points, including two free throws that tied the game at 9–9. The quarter concluded with Bryn Mawr's Vollor securing an offensive rebound and a tip-in to briefly lead 13–12 with 38 seconds remaining. However, FDU-Florham managed to close the quarter with a late layup, leading 15–13.
  • In the second quarter, Bryn Mawr began by closing the gap with a quick scoring run, highlighted by Jiang's jumper at 7:32, bringing the score to 19–17. Sydney Gelhar then contributed with a fast-break jumper at 7:00, assisted by Briggs, keeping the Owls within striking distance. Despite their efforts, Bryn Mawr faced a challenging stretch as the Devils capitalized on second-chance opportunities, extending their lead to 30–19. Towards the end of the quarter, Bryn Mawr managed to narrow the deficit slightly with Vollor and Jiang scoring crucial points, including a layup by Jiang in the final seconds, closing the quarter with a score of 31–25 in favor of FDU-Florham.
  • The third quarter saw Bryn Mawr attempt to close the gap with a series of successful plays. Mack scored inside early, contributing to Bryn Mawr's efforts in the paint. Briggs hit back-to-back 3-pointers midway through the quarter, narrowing the deficit to three points. FDU-Florham capitalized on key turnovers with a pair of timely 3-pointers and strong inside play to extend their lead. Bryn Mawr's Patel finished with two free throws and a late layup to add to the score. Despite these efforts, the Devils maintained their momentum, closing the quarter ahead 53–39.
  • Bryn Mawr initiated the fourth quarter with aggressive defense, securing three steals early on. Vollor made a layup at 9:13, assisted by Govert, and converted the subsequent free throw to cut the deficit. The visitors continued to apply pressure with Jiang and Bridget Barron contributing significant points in the paint. As the quarter progressed, the Owls capitalized on FDU-Florham's turnovers, with Briggs adding a series of jumpers to maintain momentum. Despite trading baskets down the stretch, Bryn Mawr's scoring efforts, particularly by Vollor and Jiang, helped to narrow the gap. The quarter concluded with Bryn Mawr outscoring FDU-Florham 20-16, but the game ended with a 69-59 defeat.
