CHESTERTOWN, MD- Bryn Mawr fell to Washington College on Saturday afternoon, 72-27. Washington College dominated the glass with a 50-31 rebounding advantage. Bryn Mawr struggled to find offensive rhythm, posting only 27 points.
Hannah Mack led the Owls with eight points and converted 2 of 3 free throws. While
Cameron Richter contributed six points, making two 3-pointers.
Jenny Briggs recorded two steals and added three points, and
Michelle Jiang collected seven rebounds and blocked one shot.
How It Happened:
- Bryn Mawr began the game with defensive intensity, securing 10 rebounds in the first quarter, including nine on the defensive end. However, offensive production was stifled by Washington College's defense, and the committed seven turnovers throughout the frame. Despite Bryn Mawr's defensive efforts, Washington College capitalized on their opportunities, particularly in the paint, scoring eight points and generating six points off turnovers. The first quarter concluded with Bryn Mawr trailing 14-0.
- The second quarter kicked off with jumper from Mack, to narrow the gap. However, the team struggled offensively, going 2-for-14 from the field. In contrast, Washington College capitalized on offensively, scoring 16 points in the paint and forcing five steals. Briggs provided a brief spark with a three-pointer at 5:56, but Bryn Mawr could not sustain the momentum. The Shorewomen maintained control, ending the quarter on a strong note with a 26-5 run to extend their lead. The half ended with Washington College leading 40-7.
- After the halftime break, Mack finished a layup and free throw at 8:18, bringing the Owls' score to 10. Jiang provided defensive support with a block and several key rebounds, contributing to Bryn Mawr's control in the paint. Although Bryn Mawr stepped up their defensive efforts, Washington College responded with a series of successful plays, including a three-pointer by Ellie Carter-Soriano at 6:50. The Owls showed resilience, with Mack adding another jumper and free throw to keep the bring the score to 13-46 at 2:25. The quarter closed with the Shorewomen extending their lead, ending the third with a score of 54-15. Bryn Mawr's persistence was evident in their efforts on both ends of the court, highlighted by contributions from both Jiang and Mack.
- Bryn Mawr opened the final frame with a strong defensive presence, securing two blocks and two steals. Maddy Patel provided a spark, hitting a 3-pointer at 8:17, assisted by Bridget Barron, to narrow the deficit. Richter followed with two additional 3-pointers, bringing the score to 24 despite pressure from the Shorewomen. Bryn Mawr battled in the last quarter, however Washington College maintained momentum with effective rebounding and points in the paint. The home team capitalized on second chances, increasing their lead with key free throws and a 3-pointer at 4:48. Despite a late 3-pointer by Kayla Spencer with less than a minute remaining, Bryn Mawr trailed at the end, closing the quarter 72-27.
