History Made: Coach Coleman Guides Bryn Mawr to First Conference Victory Since 2008

BRYN MAWR, PA- Bryn Mawr edged Washington College, 73-68, in a tightly contested overtime clash at the Class of 1958 Gymnasium. Bryn Mawr capitalized from the free-throw line, converting 19 of 26 attempts, to secure the victory. This win marks Bryn Mawr's first conference victory since 2008, back when current Interim Athletic Director Katie Tarr was the head coach. It also represents Coach Carla Coleman's first-ever conference win.

Jenny Briggs scored a career-high total of 26 points, making seven three-pointers and finishing with three assists. Hannah Mack set a season-high with 17 total points and recorded eight rebounds, contributing one block and one steal. Jenna Vollor collected nine rebounds and tallied two steals while adding nine points. Hannah Govert posted two blocks, scored 10 points, and grabbed three rebounds.

How It Happened:
  • Bryn Mawr opened play actively on defense, with Jiang securing an early steal from Washington College. Despite initial shooting struggles, Mack got Bryn Mawr on the board with a jumper in the paint. Vollor capitalized on a turnover with a layup, assisted by Mack, narrowing the early gap. The Owls continued to apply defensive pressure, with Mack contributing a key block to stall Washington's progress. Briggs connected on a three-pointer, assisted by Jiang, bringing Bryn Mawr closer on the scoreboard. Cameron Richter added a late jumper to keep the game within reach. The quarter closed with Bryn Mawr trailing narrowly, 11-9.
  • The second frame began with a tied score, but Bryn Mawr quickly fell behind as Washington College capitalized on fast breaks and points in the paint. Despite defensive efforts including blocks by Jiang and Mack, Bryn Mawr struggled to convert on the offensive end, shooting 2-for-16 from the field. Briggs managed to keep Bryn Mawr within reach with a jump shot and perfect performance from the free-throw line. Washington College maintained their momentum, extending their lead through timely shooting and fast-break opportunities. The Owls continued to fight back, with contributions from Richter at the free-throw line and a block by Govert. However, Washington College's defense proved formidable, recording six blocks in the quarter. Heading into the half-time break, Bryn Mawr trailed 28-19.
  • The third quarter began with Bryn Mawr making a push, led by Vollor's consecutive layups, narrowing the gap early in the quarter. Mack contributed a fast-break layup to further cut the deficit. In response, Washington College tallied a series of baskets, including a three-pointer that extended their lead. Despite efforts from Briggs, who cashed in a three-ball from deep, and an assist to Sydney Gelhar for a jumper, Bryn Mawr faced challenges maintaining momentum. The Shorewomen capitalized on second-chance opportunities and free throws, maintaining their edge throughout the quarter. By the end of the frame, Bryn Mawr trailed 46-34.
  • The Owls shifted momentum in the fourth quarter with a series of critical plays. Briggs initiated the surge with back-to-back three-pointers, narrowing the gap. Govert and Jiang contributed with a pair of vital assists that were pivotal in building the offensive pressure. Despite Washington College's attempts to maintain their lead, Bryn Mawr's defensive efforts, highlighted by Vollor's key steal and offensive rebounds, kept them competitive. With less than a minute remaining, Mack's three-pointer gave Bryn Mawr a slim lead. In the final seconds, with the score tied, Govert's layup leveled the game at 58-58, closing the quarter on even terms. Mack contributed at the line, converting four critical free throws in the closing moments to maintain the advantage. The Shorewomen made a late effort push, including a late three-pointer and a layup, but Bryn Mawr's defensive rebounds and free throw accuracy capped the scoring.
