CHESTERTOWN, MD – The Bryn Mawr field hockey traveled to Washington College earlier Tuesday for an evening game against the Shorewomen on Kibler Field. The Owls tallied 10 shots and earned eight penalty corners, yet an early defensive save and strong goal keeping proved decisive and Washington College won, 4-0.
Highlights:
- Bryn Mawr earned an early penalty corner at 2:17 taken by Leya Patel, and in the 13th minute Annick van Blerkom nearly gave the Owls the lead. Her shot was headed for the goal before Washington's Jam Hutt-Robles stepped in to make a defensive save, keeping the game scoreless after 15 minutes.
- Maggie Barilla tested the Shorewomen goalkeeper off another Patel corner, but Washington College struck first at 21:53 when Samantha McMahon converted a pass from MaryCate Anson. The Owls trailed 1-0 at halftime.
- The Owls dominated possession in the third quarter, firing eight shots and drawing five penalty corners. Efforts from Patel, Ilona Bender, Lauren Barlow, and Delia Angulo Chen all forced saves, but Washington doubled its lead at 42:25 through Madison Maguire.
- Washington College's Emma Campbell added another goal at 46:45, and Anson capped the scoring with a penalty stroke in the 57th minute to close out the 4-0 result.
The Owls return to action on Saturday, hosting Dickinson College at 2:00 PM EST on Shillingford Field as part of Owls Fest. The team will honor their seniors in a pregame ceremony, and fans will also have the chance to meet Bryn Mawr's new mascot, Olympia the Owl.
