PENNSAUKEN, NJ - It was a strong weekend of racing for the Bryn Mawr Owls at the Dad Vail Regatta, the final event of the 2024-25 season. All three of Bryn Mawr's women's 8+ boats competed over both days, with time trials and semifinals on Friday, followed by grand and petite finals on Saturday. The Owls' 1st Varsity 8+ (A boat) took 2nd in the grand final, the 2nd Varsity 8+ (B boat) placed 5th, and the 3rd Varsity 8+ (C boat) finished 3rd in the petite final.
Friday Highlights:
- Bryn Mawr was the only program in the event to race three eights.
- The 1st Varsity 8+ posted the second-fastest 2k time in the DIII Women's Varsity 8 time trial, crossing in 7:15.11. Catholic led with a time of 7:03.70.Â
- The 2nd Varsity 8+ placed 4th in the time trial with a time of 7:33.70. The Owls beat out both the Stockton and Simmons "A" boats for a top lane in the semifinals. The Owls were one of two "B" entries in the event.
- The 3rd Varsity 8+ stayed competitive in the pack, finishing the time trial in 8:23.61, just behind Simmons' crew (8:19.46).Â
- In the afternoon semifinals, Bryn Mawr's 1V dominated, finishing first in their race with a 7:23.44 to secure the top seed in the grand final.
- The 2nd Varsity 8+ also advanced to the grand final, holding off Stockton's A boat with a 7:44.49 finish. Stockton finished just ahead in 7:39.19, while Catholic again led the field at 7:24.25.
Saturday's Highlights:
- In the grand final, Bryn Mawr's 1st and 2nd Varsity boats raced against Catholic, Stockton A and B, and RIT. The 1st Varsity 8+ earned 2nd place with a time of 7:12.66, just behind Catholic's 7:07.08.
- The 2nd Varsity 8+ placed 5th in the Grand Final with a 7:44.28 finish.
- The 3rd Varsity 8+ competed in the Petite Final, securing 2nd place with a time of 8:13.36.Â
