Bryn Mawr Battles but Falls to Franklin & Marshall

BRYN MAWR, PA – The Bryn Mawr basketball team fought a tightly contested matchup against the Diplomats of Franklin and Marshall on Saturday afternoon in the Class of 1958 Gymnasium but ultimately came up short 56-43.

Highlights:

  • The Diplomats came out strong in the first quarter, building a 19-10 lead. Bryn Mawr worked hard to stay close, with Jessica Smith hitting a pair of free throws and a layup, while Hannah Mack added a fast-break basket to keep the game within reach.

  • The Owls found their rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring Franklin & Marshall 16-14 to cut into the deficit. Mack caught fire, sinking a three-pointer and adding a layup to her tally. Smith's energy on both ends of the court also proved crucial, as Bryn Mawr forced several turnovers to gain momentum. At halftime, the Owls trailed by just seven points at 33-26.

  • Coming out of the break, Bryn Mawr continued to battle. Smith and Mack carried the offensive load in the third quarter, combining for 10 points. Daphne Bracker Sturm also contributed on defense with a key block and rebound, helping the Owls narrow the gap to six points during the period.

  • However, Franklin & Marshall's Lizzie Neville proved difficult to contain, scoring a game-high 23 points. The Diplomats' defense stiffened in the fourth quarter, limiting Bryn Mawr to just five points. Despite Bracker Sturm's strong presence on the boards, the Owls couldn't close the gap, as Franklin & Marshall sealed the win with clutch free throws and fast-break opportunities.

  • Smith led Bryn Mawr with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists, marking another impressive performance for the senior. Mack added 14 points, including two three-pointers, while Bracker Sturm chipped in seven points and nine rebounds.
