Bryn Mawr Competes Hard Despite Defeat to Blue Jays

BRYN MAWR, PA- Bryn Mawr fell to Johns Hopkins, 93-28, at the Class of 1958 Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. The Owls remained competitive during the first quarter, but the Blue Jays' defense stalled Bryn Mawr's attack.

How It Happened:
  • The first quarter began with Bryn Mawr taking an early lead as Jenny Briggs scored a jumper. The home team-maintained pressure, highlighted by Jenna Vollor's 3-pointer, assisted by Briggs, to regain the lead at 7-5. The Owls' defense was effective early, with Hannah Mack contributing a block to maintain momentum. As the quarter progressed, the Blue Jays capitalized on free-throw opportunities and took advantage of turnovers to edge ahead. Despite this, Bryn Mawr's Hannah Govert managed a tip-in to briefly reclaim a lead. However, Johns Hopkins closed the quarter strong, scoring a layup and tipping in an offensive rebound, giving the visitors a 13-9 lead.
  • During the second quarter, the Owls struggle to find an offensive rhythm, shooting. Despite a strong defensive effort, including 11 total rebounds and a blocked shot by Michelle Jiang, turnovers were a challenge, with Bryn Mawr committing seven in the quarter. Jiang crashed the boards, collecting three offensive rebounds, and exceeding her season average. As the half concluded, the Owls trailed 33-13, looking to regroup for the second half.
  • Johns Hopkins seized control during the third quarter, capitalizing on strong perimeter shooting and fast breaks. Bryn Mawr struggled to find rhythm, managing only two field goals and a single free throw. Jiang provided a brief spark with a layup at 6:54, but the team was unable to sustain momentum. The frame closed with Bryn Mawr trailing 70-18.
  • In the final period, the Owls sought to close the gap with steady efforts in the paint, notching 8 points. Danielle Hinton contributed a layup early on, and Allison Stoudt added two free throws to the tally. The Blue Jays tightened up their defense and forced five Bryn Mawr turnovers to swing the momentum in the visitors' favor. Johns Hopkins maintained their lead through sharp perimeter shooting, hitting five three-pointers in the quarter. While Bryn Mawr's defensive rebounding limited some second-chance opportunities, the Blue Jays extended their lead further. The quarter concluded with Johns Hopkins leading 93-28.
