FREDERICK, MD- The Owls traveled to Hood College for a non-conference match up on Saturday afternoon. In a defensive battled, Bryn Mawr fell 38-30, at the Volpe Athletic Center. The Owls recorded 40 rebounds and nine steals but struggled to find an offensive rhythm.
How it Happened:
- Bryn Mawr opened the game with a steady approach, converting a jumper by Jenny Briggs to put points on the board early. Briggs contributed significantly, hitting a 3-pointer to narrow the margin to 10-9. The Owls capitalized on turnovers and free throws, with Jenna Vollor sinking both attempts to keep the game within reach. Despite facing defensive pressure, Bryn Mawr responded with defensive rebounds and a block by Hannah Mack near the end of the frame.
- The second quarter started with Bryn Mawr applying defensive pressure, highlighted by Mack's block at 9:23 and Maddy Patel's steal at 7:22. Bryn Mawr managed to capitalize on Hood's turnovers, closing the gap with a layup by Michelle Jiang at 3:59 and a timely steal and layup by Mack at 1:21. Briggs converted a crucial 3-pointer at 0:58 to put the Owls within two points of the Blazers heading into the halftime break.
- Bryn Mawr came out in the third quarter with newfound confidence when Mack's defensive rebound led to a scoring opportunity, which Vollor converted with a tip-in to tie the game, 22-22. Jiang's defensive efforts, including a key steal, helped maintain momentum. Shortly after, Hannah Govert's 3-pointer, assisted by Briggs, gave the Owls a 25-22 lead. Hood responded with a layup and free throws, reclaiming a narrow advantage. Bryn Mawr responded with strong defensive efforts, including a block by Mack, however the Blazers closed the quarter with another 3-pointer, and the Owls ended the quarter trailing, 32-25.
- Bryn Mawr continued to battle on the defensive end to open the final frame, highlighted by another block from Mack at 6:36. This defensive effort was followed by a crucial 3-pointer from the junior guard, assisted by Jiang, narrowing Hood's lead, 34-28. The Owls continued to press, with Vollor converting a layup at 4:28 to cut the deficit to four points. The first-year center went four-for-four from the charity strip and nearly secured a double-double, finishing with 8 points and 12 rebounds — including an impressive 6 on the offensive glass. As time wound down, Hood capitalized on a fast break to extend their lead and secure the win, 38-30.
