Owls Victorious in Overtime Thriller at Home

BRYN MAWR, PA- Bryn Mawr defeated Wilson College in an overtime thriller on Tuesday night in the Class of 1958 Gymnasium. In a game with six ties and eight lead changes, and 27 points from Bryn Mawr's bench, the Owls walked away victorious, 70-68.

How it Happened:
  • Bryn Mawr began the first quarter with an early lead, initiated by Michelle Jiang's three-pointer at 7:54, assisted by Hannah Mack. The team maintained a strong defensive presence, highlighted by a block from Jiang and a steal from Mack. However, turnovers proved challenging, allowing Wilson to capitalize and shift momentum midway through the quarter. Despite Bryn Mawr's efforts to regain control, including a successful jumper by Danielle Hinton at the 4:34 mark, Wilson extended their lead with key free throws and fast-break points. The Owls trailed 15-9 after the first quarter.
  • In the second quarter, Bryn Mawr focused on defensive efforts, notably with two blocks from Mack and three steals, including one by Jenny Briggs. First-year Bridget Barron contributed five points in the frame, including a layup and free throw to narrow the deficit. Wilson maintained their advantage, scoring 12 points in the paint. The quarter concluded with Wilson leading 29-18, as Bryn Mawr continued to find an offensive rhythm.
  • The Owls started the third quarter with a strategic timeout at 8:23 following Wilson's early scoring drive. This sparked a sequence where Briggs and Maddy Patel contributed to narrowing the gap with assisted jumpers. Patel also delivered a crucial layup at 6:58, putting the home team within reach. Throughout the quarter, Bryn Mawr capitalized on Wilson's turnovers, with Mack and Patel each securing steals that transitioned into scoring opportunities. Briggs connected on a 3-pointer at 4:49, supported by Patel's assist, to maintain competitive play. Despite Wilson's consistent scoring, Bryn Mawr closed out strong with Sydney Gelhar's clutch free throws and Barron's layup in the final seconds, closing the quarter 50-39 in favor of Wilson.
  • Gelhar opened the fourth quarter with two successful free throws, narrowing the gap. Bryn Mawr's defense, led by Mack's three blocks, kept Wilson at bay. Briggs capitalized off passes from Mack, hitting back-to-back 3-pointers to tighten the score. In the final minutes, Hannah Govert's free throws gave the Owls a slim lead. Despite a late 3-point attempt by Mack missing the mark, the team maintained strong defensive rebounds, securing a deadlock. The quarter concluded with Bryn Mawr and Wilson tied at 60, with Bryn Mawr outscoring Wilson 21-10.
  • Bryn Mawr came out in overtime with a quick layup by Jenna Vollor, assisted by Mack, to gain an early advantage. With the quarter tightly contested, the Owls managed to keep pace with scoring contributions from the bench. Crucial free throws by Mack at 1:24 gave Bryn Mawr a lead, and a three-pointer by Govert, assisted by Gelhar at 1:02, further extended it. Cameron Richter made the game winning jumper with 29 seconds remaining, assisted by Gelhar, which sealed the deal for an Owls win.
