BRYN MAWR, PA – The Bryn Mawr field hockey team earned a commanding 2-0 victory over Muhlenberg on Wednesday afternoon at Shillingford Field. With the win, the Owls extended their win streak over the Mules to four straight games.
Highlights:
- The Owls opened the game on the front foot, recording 10 shots and earning seven penalty corners in the first quarter alone. In the final two minutes of the frame, goalkeeper Charlene Basque made back-to-back saves off a Muhlenberg corner, stopping consecutive attempts from Abba Diglio and Maya Schlegel to keep the game scoreless after 15 minutes.
- Bryn Mawr continued to control possession in the second quarter, generating eight more penalty corners and five additional shots. Leya Patel and Annick van Blerkom both came close to putting the Owls ahead, but Muhlenberg's goalkeeper held firm to send the teams into halftime tied 0-0.
- The breakthrough came midway through the third quarter when Carrie Povich scored her third goal of the season off a penalty corner at 36:56, assisted by Patel. The goal marked Povich's first career game-winner and gave Bryn Mawr a 1-0 lead heading into the final frame.
- Just over a minute into the fourth quarter, the Owls struck again. Off a penalty corner at 46:33, Maggie Barilla unleashed a powerful shot that deflected off Delia Angulo Chen's stick and into the net. The goal — Angulo Chen's first of her career — sealed the 2-0 victory for Bryn Mawr.
The Owls will return on Saturday for a 1:00 PM EST road game at McDaniel College. Tune into the game live on gobrynmawr.com and follow @bmcathletics on social media to stay up to date with your favorite Bryn Mawr teams!
