WESTMINSTER, MD – The Bryn Mawr field hockey team put up a strong effort on the road Saturday afternoon but fell 1-0 to McDaniel College at Kenneth R. Gill Stadium. The Owls generated consistent offensive pressure with 15 shots and 12 penalty corners, yet the Green Terror's defense held firm to secure the narrow Centennial Conference win.
Highlights:
- The Owls came out strong in the first quarter, outshooting McDaniel 5-0 and earning three penalty corners. Addison Graupensperger fired two early shots on goal, both stopped by McDaniel's goalkeeper Lora Scarangello.
- Bryn Mawr continued to control possession in the second quarter, adding two more shots and a corner, with Lucie Burgess narrowly missing a go-ahead goal late in the frame.
- The deadlock broke midway through the third quarter when McDaniel's Caydence Stone converted a penalty stroke at 39:28 to give the Green Terror the 1-0 lead.
- Despite the goal, the Owls remained aggressive, totaling eight shots and eight penalty corners in the second half. Maggie Barilla led the offensive charge with seven shots, including two on goal, while Graupensperger added four attempts with two shots on goal.
- Bryn Mawr's defense—anchored by Sophie Chung, Carrie Povich, Annick van Blerkom, and Zoe Woon —kept McDaniel from extending their lead and limited them to just six total shots.
- Leya Patel's precision on penalty corners created late opportunities in the fourth quarter, but Scarangello's four saves, including one in the closing minute, preserved the shutout.
The Owls (6-7, 1-4 CC) will be back in action on Wednesday at 7:00 PM EST for an away game at Swarthmore College. Tune into the game live on gobrynmawr.com and follow @bmcathletics on social media to stay up to date with your favorite Bryn Mawr teams!
