Owls Host "Spread Respect" Game Against Gettysburg

BRYN MAWR, PA- The Bryn Mawr soccer team hosted a "Spread Respect" game Saturday afternoon on Applebee field prior to their kick-off against Gettysburg College. The Owls put together a determined defensive effort, holding visiting Gettysburg scoreless for more than 60 minutes of play after a quick two-goal burst in the first half. Despite the final 2-0 decision at Applebee Field, the Owls showed grit against another Centennial Conference opponent.

Highlights:
  • Gettysburg struck twice in a span of just over a minute in the opening period, converting in the 30th and 31st minutes to grab an early advantage. The Bullets pressed hard in the first half, recording 12 shots and earning four corners, but goalkeeper Lily Blackman was locked in from the opening whistle. The first-year posted six saves in the first 45 minutes. Blackman capped the day with nine total saves, her second highest total of the season.
  • Hailey Ferrier, Lanie Thompson, Alexandra Morales and Jess Johnson anchored the defense with composure to fend off the Gettysburg attack.
  • Bryn Mawr's midfield began to turn the tide after the break, linking play through Rece Anton, Isie Poff, and Adelynn Arroyo to open space for the forwards. The Owls earned their first corner kick of the day in the 51st minute when Beatriz da Silva drove down the left flank and forced a tip off of a Bullet defender. Moments later, Morales connected on a header that sailed just wide, marking one of Bryn Mawr's best chances of the afternoon.
  • da Silva remained active in the attack, leading the team with two shots—including one on target in the closing minutes. Anton and Morales each added one shot as the Owls tallied four in the second half while holding Gettysburg to only a pair of dangerous looks over the final 20 minutes.
Bryn Mawr soccer returns to Applebee field on Wednesday, October 15th against Ursinus College. The game is set to kick-off at 4:00 PM EST and the team will be hosting their annual Pink Week game to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen foundation and aid the organization in their fight to end Breast Cancer.
