Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Victorious in Gritty Win Against Lebanon Valley

ANNIVLLE, PA- Bryn Mawr field hockey traveled to Annville, PA to earn their seventh consecutive win on Saturday afternoon against a tough-nosed Lebanon Valley team. The Owls went down 1-0 early in the game but battled back to win, 2-1.

Highlights:

  • The first period of the game saw an early attack from both teams. The Owls drew five penalty corners within the first 15 minutes of gameplay; however, the Dutchmen scored first and maintained a 1-0 lead over the Owls until the second half.

  • After a back and forth first half, Bryn Mawr returned to the pitch with determination. At 32:43, Novy Goetgeluk shot from the right wing through a crowd of Dutchmen and Owls to put the visitors on the board to tie the game, 1-1. Goetgeluk's goal helped the Owls find a new momentum against Lebanon Valley.

  • Not shortly after Goetgeluk's goal did the Dutchmen attack back, firing two shots on goal, however a save from goalie Charlene Basque and a defensive save from Zoe Woon staved off the offensive. Basque recorded three saves on the day.

  • Entering the fourth period, Bryn Mawr battled to find the back of the net. The Owls drew six penalty corners during the last 15 minutes of gameplay. At 55:17, Bryn Mawr earned penalty corner number six. A mishandled pass to the top of the circle was recovered by Noor Werndlij and re-entered to Maggie Barilla. Barilla put the ball in between the posts to secure a 2-1 lead over the Dutchmen.

The Owls look to begin their Centennial Conference schedule on Wednesday, October 2nd at 4:30 PM EST against Swarthmore College on Shillingford Field. Tune into the game live on gobrynmawr.com and follow @bmcathletics on social media to stay up to date with your favorite Bryn Mawr teams.
