BRYN MAWR, PA – The Bryn Mawr soccer team played a hard-fought game earlier Wednesday on Applebee Field in their first home Centennial Conference competition of the season against the Shorewomen of Washington College. The Owls kept Washington College off the scoreboard until a Shorewomen goal at 66:22. Bryn Mawr did not manage to overcome the one goal lead and dropped a 1-0 decision to their conference competitor.
Highlights:
- Washington College collected the first scoring opportunity at 3:06 in the game, but it sailed into the arms of Owls goalkeeper Maeve Slemko and the score remained tied.
- Beatriz da Silva and Rece Anton followed up with their own shots for the Owls, but none ticked the scoreboard. Washington's offense continued to push, but Slemko kept the Shorewomen at bay with five more saves in the first half, and the score remained 0-0 at halftime.
- The Shorewomen came back hot and heavy in the second half with six early shots until the seventh finally found it's way at 66:22. Slemko got a piece of it on her elbow, but did not manage to stop the Shorewomen's goal.
- Bryn Mawr took two corners in the second half, each by da Silva. On the second corner, first-year Lanie Thompson took a header, but it soared high. This was the last scoring opportunity of the game and the Shorewomen won, 1-0.
