Owls Fall After First Half Shutout

BRYN MAWR, PA – The Bryn Mawr soccer team welcomed Penn State Harrisburg to Applebee Field earlier Wednesday. The Nittany Lions maintained offensive favor throughout the first half, but the Owls' defense held resilient as first-year goalkeeper Maeve Slemko saved all eight shots she faced. The Nittany Lions found a few openings in the second half to turn the game around with two goals and won the game, 2-0.

Highlights:
  • Penn State had the first scoring chance at 3:27 in the opening minutes as Julia Hughes fired a shot, but after seven more attempts by the Nittany Lions, Slemko kept the visiting team at bay. Overall, Slemko would make 11 saves on the day.
  • Sophomore Rece Anton took Bryn Mawr's first shot attempt at 23:19, but it went wide and the half ended in a scoreless tie.
  • The Nittany Lions were off to the races upon returning from halftime to score in the opening nine minutes of the second half. After a Penn State foul, senior captain Sarah Lohrey made a clean pass to first-year Beatriz da Silva who attempted a shot in the corner, but the Nittany Lions quelled the Owls advance with a save.
  • Penn State went on to score an additional goal at 60:48 by Kylie Yap. Owls Helene Lopez made one last attempt at an Owl goal in the final minute, but the shot went wide and the game ended 2-0 in Penn State's favor.
