BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Bryn Mawr tennis welcomed Swarthmore to campus earlier Tuesday afternoon for a faceoff against their Centennial Conference foes. Coming off a big weekend win last Saturday, Bryn Mawr put on another strong performance today against one of the top teams in the region. However, the Garnet rolled to a 9-0 win on the day.
Highlights:
- Sophie Fenster and Fernanda Hurtado Mariscal were able to win a couple games in their matchup at first doubles, but ultimately lost 8-3 to their Garnet opponents. Lowrey West and Kelli Eng fought hard in their second doubles matchup but were forced to take an 8-0 loss despite their efforts. At third doubles, Wynn Bryant and Kelly Cole frustrated their opponents at times thanks to some great effort and smart shots.
- In singles, Bryn Mawr continued to battle, but it was always going to be a challenge for the Owls in going up against one of the top teams in the conference and region.
- West and Hurtado Mariscal both put up strong defenses at third and fifth singles respectively.
- Fenster had the most success of the day on the scorecard in her matchup at first singles. The sophomore captain took the lead in the second set as she looked to bring the match into a third set tiebreak, but her Swarthmore opponent held the match (6-3, 7-5).
Bryn Mawr will look to rebound when they travel to McDaniel on Friday for a 4pm match before returning home on Saturday to welcome Muhlenberg in the last match of the season.
