BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Bryn Mawr's tennis team was back on the court for their second home match of the week earlier Wednesday. The Owls faced a difficult Centennial Conference opponent in Johns Hopkins who came into the day ranked 7th in the ITA national rankings, but Bryn Mawr put up a great fight throughout the contest. Unfortunately, each match went the way of the visitors as the Blue Jays ultimately walked away with a 9-0 win on the day.
Highlights:
- Kelly Cole and Gioanna Zhao once again paired up at No. 3 doubles for the Owls, and the duo played some very solid tennis against their opponents to take six games along the way.
- Sophie Fenster and Fernanda Hurtado Mariscal held strong at No. 1 doubles while Lowry West and Kelli Eng also put together some good rallies, but in the end both duos would lose their matches 8-1 and 8-3 respectively.
- Over in singles, Fenster had a strong match at the top spot. The sophomore captain took on Johns Hopkins' Sophia Kim, and Fenster made a good battle out of the contest. She won at least one game in each set played (6-3, 6-1), the lone Bryn Mawr player to do so on the day.
- Hurtado Mariscal (No. 4), Cole (No. 5), and Zhao (No. 6) also put on great fights with each player winning a game against their opponent.
- At No. 3 singles, Eng played a tight second set to win two games against her Hopkins' opponent, but in the end, the Blue Jays took wins at all six singles matches to complete the 9-0 win.
Despite the loss, Coach
Doanh Wang and the rest of the Owls have plenty of positives to draw from today's efforts, and they'll look forward to getting right back in the win column when they take the court on Saturday against Dickinson.
