BALTIMORE, Md. – The Bryn Mawr tennis team wrapped their spring break training trip with a match at Goucher earlier Thursday afternoon. The Owls took an early 3-0 lead after doubles, but Goucher managed to close the gap with a few wins at singles until Bryn Mawr pulled ahead for a 5-4 win.
Highlights:
- The match started off similar to yesterday's competition at Virginia Wesleyan, as Bryn Mawr entered singles already up 3-0 thanks to a clean sweep at doubles.
- Despite the three-match lead, Goucher proved relentless in singles with four out of the six matches being decided by a third set.
- Goucher had a strong start to singles, to win at No. 3 and No. 6 and closed the gap at 3-2.
- After losing the first set at No. 1 singles, Sophie Fenster won the next two (2-6, 6-3, 6-2) to remain undefeated this academic year and revive the Owls' lead.
- Fernanda Hurtado Mariscal and Kelly Cole both had tough matches at No. 4 and No. 5 singles respectively. While both Owls split sets with their opponents, Goucher won the matches on both occasions.
- Not long before, Lowrey West stepped off the court with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles to earn the Owls' fifth win of the day and solidify their victory over Goucher. This was West's second third set win in two days.
The Owls will return to campus before they travel to Moravian next Thursday for a 4pm match.
