Owls Drop Tight Contest in Overtime Thriller Against Muhlenberg

BRYN MAWR, PA – The Bryn Mawr basketball team faced a nail-biter in their Centennial Conference opener Wednesday evening, ultimately falling 73-66 in overtime against Muhlenberg. The Owls had their best regulation game sine 2008 against the Mules. Despite a resilient effort, the Owls came up just short at the Class of 1958 Gymnasium.

Highlights:

  • The Owls came out strong, matching Muhlenberg nearly basket for basket. Jessica Smith set the tone early, scoring in the paint and grabbing key rebounds. Smith led all scorers with a game-high 27 points and added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Kris Pasia added a three-pointer to keep the Owls in contention. Pasia chipped in 12 points, including four three-pointers for Bryn Mawr.

  • Muhlenberg led by a narrow 15-13 margin after ten minutes of play.

  • Bryn Mawr faced a tougher second period as Muhlenberg's defense tightened, forcing several turnovers. Daphne Bracker Sturm remained a force on the boards, but the Mules' Veronica Dawson found her rhythm, scoring consistently to extend the visitor's lead. Muhlenberg took a 32-25 advantage into halftime.

  • The Owls came roaring back after the break, outscoring Muhlenberg 22-17 in the quarter. Smith and Bracker-Sturm dominated inside, while Pasia connected on another clutch three-pointer. Bracker-Sturm posted a career high of 17 points and added 12 rebounds for a double-double on the night. Bryn Mawr's defensive pressure stifled the Mules' offensive flow, allowing the Owls to narrow the gap to 49-47 heading into the final frame.

  • Both teams traded blows in a back-and-forth fourth quarter. Smith continued to lead the charge for Bryn Mawr, scoring critical baskets in the closing minutes. However, Muhlenberg managed to tie the game late, forcing overtime as both teams ended regulation deadlocked at 62-62.

  • The Mules capitalized on their opportunities in the extra period, using timely free throws and turnovers to edge out the Owls. Despite a valiant effort by Bryn Mawr, including strong defensive plays and hustle from Bracker-Sturm, Muhlenberg outscored the Owls 11-4 in overtime to secure the victory.

The Owls (7-3, 0-1 Centennial) return to action on Saturday, December 7th at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD. Tune into the game live on gobrynmawr.com and follow @bmcathletics to stay up to date with your favorite Bryn Mawr teams.
