BRYN MAWR, PA – The Bryn Mawr basketball team returned to the Class of 1958 Gymnasium and showcased a commanding performance against Cairn University on Saturday afternoon. The Owls, led by a balanced offensive attack and stifling defense, cruised to a 72-41 victory to improve to 7-2 on the season.
Highlights:
- Bryn Mawr set the tone early and opened the game with a strong first quarter. Michelle Jiang knocked down a three-pointer in the opening minute, and Jessica Smith added a pair of jumpers to push the Owls ahead. Cairn kept pace initially with points in the paint, but Bryn Mawr's defense forced turnovers and converted them into fast-break opportunities. By the end of the quarter, Bryn Mawr held an 18-13 lead.
- The second quarter saw Bryn Mawr take control of the game. The Owls' bench contributed 15 points during the period, highlighted by Hannah Mack's sharp shooting and Cameron Richter's rebounding presence. On defense, Bryn Mawr stifled Cairn's scoring opportunities to limit the Highlanders to just six points. Smith's layup midway through the quarter capped an impressive 12-2 run, and the Owls entered halftime with a 40-19 lead.
- Coming out of the break, Bryn Mawr refused to let up. Jiang added a fast-break layup early in the third quarter, and Mack drained a three-pointer to extend the lead. Cairn struggled to break through Bryn Mawr's defense, with turnovers resulting in 11 additional points for the Owls. By the end of the third, Bryn Mawr held a commanding 60-27 advantage.
- Cairn made a push in the fourth quarter, scoring 14 points, but Bryn Mawr's reserves kept the game firmly in control. Daphne Bracker Sturm and Allison Stoudt played key minutes off the bench, contributing timely rebounds and defensive stops. The Owls' strong team effort sealed a decisive 72-41 win.
