Fourth Quarter Heroics Secure Owls' Spot in Centennial Conference Tournament

WESTMINSTER, MD- The Bryn Mawr College field hockey team traveled to Westminster, MD on Saturday evening for their last regular season game against McDaniel College. Both teams put on an impressive defensive showing throughout the match-up. In a game that was scoreless at the halftime break, Bryn Mawr flew away victorious with three goals during the final quarter to win, 3-1. With this win the Owls sealed their trip to the Centennial Conference tournament. 

  • Bryn Mawr's defense stayed strong against McDaniel. They faced 10 penalty corners and nine shots on goal, however the defensive line only allowed one goal throughout the game.  

  • At 35:35, Eva Yacura blocked a McDaniel shot and kept the game scoreless going into the half.  

  • After McDaniel slipped a goal by Bryn Mawr's defense in the third quarter, the Owls looked to respond during the final 15 minutes of gameplay. Two minutes into the quarter, Jasmine Peterson entered the ball into the center of the circle from the right side of the goal to Sophie Vagts. Vagts connected and scored to tie up the game for the Owls.  

  • With a little under nine minutes left to play, Bryn Mawr drew a penalty corner. Senior captain Reba Ervin inserted the ball to Maggie Barilla who sent a bouncing pass to Hazel Miller near the left post. Miller found the ball in the air and sent it to the back of the cage for Bryn Mawr's first lead of the game. The goal was Miller's first of the season. 

  • At 57:00, Senior captain Novy Goetgeluk capitalized for the Owls with a goal off a penalty stroke to secure the win, 3-1. With the goal, Goetgeluk became Bryn Mawr's leading scorer of the season with seven goals.
