SWARTHMORE, PA- Bryn Mawr field hockey traveled to Swarthmore College to face the Garnet in the first round of the Centennial Conference tournament on Tuesday night. The Owls entered the tournament as the #6 seed. Bryn Mawr earned a win in dominant fashion, shutting out the #3 seed Swarthmore, 3-0 and secured a trip to the semi-finals on Thursday.

For the first seven minutes of gameplay the Owls and Swarthmore battled back and forth. Both teams traded fouls and runs towards the goal. At 7:40, Bryn Mawr gained possession of the ball and pushed forward into Garnet territory. Senior captain Novy Goetgeluk sent the ball through a sea of Swarthmore defenders and found Junior forward Jasmine Peterson. Peterson shot the ball in the cage to put the Owls ahead, 1-0.

In the second quarter, Bryn Mawr continued their offensive attack. At 22:37, the Owls drew a penalty corner against Swarthmore's defense. Reba Ervin entered the ball to a ready Maggie Barilla. Barilla sent a rocket shot towards the goal and forward Hazel Miller tipped the ball past the goalkeeper for the Garnets. The goal is Miller's second in the past two games.

To start the second-half the Garnet looked to respond to Bryn Mawr's offensive dominance. Swarthmore drew a corner at 32:22, but the Owls defense cleared the ball out of the circle and regained possession. Eight minutes later Bryn Mawr drew two penalty corners back-to-back. Ervin entered the corner to Eva Yacura who shot from the top of the circle for Owls' goal number three.

During the last fifteen minutes of game, Bryn Mawr locked Swarthmore down defensively. The Garnet drew five penalty corners and took two shots, however the Owls' defense stayed strong in the circle to stave off the attack. At 50:09, Charlene Basque made a crucial save to keep Bryn Mawr ahead.
Bryn Mawr field hockey punched their ticket to the semi-finals of the Centennial Conference tournament with Tuesday night's win.
