BALMTIMORE, MD – The Bryn Mawr basketball team faced a tough challenge on Saturday afternoon, taking on Goucher College at the Goucher College Invitational. Despite strong efforts from key players, the Owls ultimately fell to the Gophers 92-51 at the Decker Sports & Recreation Center.
Daphne Bracker-Sturm and
Sena Kaper-Dale led the Owls with 14 points apiece while Bracker-Sturm also tallied 13 rebounds.
Highlights:
- Bryn Mawr dominated the glass with 59 rebounds but struggled with turnovers, committing 54 on the day. The Owls earned 32 points in the paint and saw strong contributions from their bench, which added 28 points.
- The Owls found themselves in an early deficit after Goucher came out firing in the first quarter. Bryn Mawr got on the board with a sharp three-pointer from Michelle Jiang, but turnovers plagued the team, allowing Goucher to build a commanding 24-11 lead by the end of the frame.
- In the second quarter, Bryn Mawr regrouped with strong play inside the paint, led by Bracker-Sturm and Kaper-Dale. However, Goucher's bench contributed valuable minutes, keeping the Owls at bay and extending their lead to 40-23 at halftime.
- After the break, Bryn Mawr continued to fight, with Cameron Richter leading on the boards and Kaper-Dale finding her rhythm offensively. The Owls added 12 points in the third quarter, but Goucher capitalized on turnovers and maintained their hot shooting, pouring in 33 points.
- In the final quarter, Bryn Mawr showed resilience, putting up their highest-scoring effort of the game with 16 points. Bracker-Sturm, who recorded their first double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds, was a dominant presence. Despite this late surge, Goucher's depth and defensive pressure carried them to a win.
