Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Owls Win at Home Against Muhlenberg

BRYN MAWR, PA- Bryn Mawr field hockey won on Wednesday afternoon on Shillingford Field in a tight game against the visiting Mules of Muhlenberg College. The Owls scored early in the opening minutes of the game and held onto the lead throughout to win, 1-0.

Highlights:

  • Bryn Mawr opened the game on the attack and caught the Mules flat footed. The Owls drew two penalty corners within the first three minutes of gameplay and took two shots on goal.

  • At 3:58, senior captain Novy Goetgeluk stole the ball from Muhlenberg and entered it into visitor territory from outside the circle. Sophie Vagts tracked down the pass and found the back of the cage for a Bryn Mawr goal. The goal marked Vagts' fourth of the season and Goetgeluk's fourth assist of the year.

  • Bryn Mawr did not take their foot off the gas and in period two, three different Owls took shots on goal. Senior captain Eva Yacura, Maggie Barilla and Goetgeluk  shot and aimed to increase Bryn Mawr's lead but did not put the ball between the posts. Yacura recorded six shots on goal for the game.

  • Senior forward Lauren Barlow and graduate student Izzy Robinson-Cloete each earned shots on goal, but Muhlenberg's goalie Grace Leard was a brick wall in the cage and recorded eight saves on the day.

The Owls travel to Carlisle, PA on Friday, October 11th  to take on the Red Devils of Dickinson College at 4:00 PM EST. Tune in on gobrynmawr.com to catch the game live and follow @bmcathletics on social media to stay up to date with your favorite Bryn Mawr teams.
