Owls Hold Johns Hopkins to Three Goals

BRYN MAWR, PA – The Bryn Mawr soccer team welcomed #9 Johns Hopkins to Applebee Field earlier Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays scored three in the first half, but the Owls' defense held strong to keep the game scoreless in the second.

Highlights:
  • The Blue Jays took a running start from the blow of the whistle with seven shots in the opening 10 minutes of the game, but Owls' goalkeeper Maeve Slemko saved all attempts. At 10:52, Katie Sullivan finally got Johns Hopkins on the scoreboard with a goal. than a minute later, the Blue Jays were back with a second goal.
  • Slemko made another save for the Owls at 13:30, but Sullivan returned for the Blue Jays' third goal of the game at 19:41. The Owls' defense held strong for the remaining half, and Hopkins entered halftime leading, 3-0.
  • Bryn Mawr proved relentless in the second half and quelled Johns Hopkins' offensive prowess at every opportunity to collect a clean sheet.
  • Sophomore Sophia Kearns took a shot for the Owls at 64:40, but it went wide. Slemko recorded an additional six saves in the second half for a total of 19 saves - a career high for the young Owl.
  • After a scoreless second half, the Blue Jays won, 3-0. Despite the loss, the Owls took away many positives, including their best result at home against Johns Hopkins since 2008 (L, 5-3.)
