BRYN MAWR, PA – The Bryn Mawr soccer team welcomed Ursinus to Applebee Field earlier Saturday for a Centennial Conference match-up. Prior to the game, the Owls celebrated senior
Sarah Lohrey who was joined on the field by her parents. The Bears scored in the opening two minutes of the game, but a late goal in the second half by
Lourdes Sankar tied up the scoreboard. Bryn Mawr recorded a handful of close calls in the final minutes of play, but Ursinus's defense held their own and the game resulted in a tie; the Owls' first tie in Conference play this season.
Highlights:
- Ursinus had the upper hand in the opening half with three shots in the first minutes of the game before the third shot connected at 2:20 by Bears Kayla Harvey. Byn Mawr Beatriz da Silva took the Owls' first shot at 6:12, but it was saved by Ursinus's goalkeeper Mandy Carideo.
- The Bears continued to push for a second goal, but Owls' goalkeeper Maeve Slemko held them off at every attempt to record nine saves in the first half alone. Ursinus entered halftime in the lead at 1-0.
- Bryn Mawr had a shaky start in the second half as Ursinus collected four shots and three corners in the opening 15 minutes, but all attempts were thwarted by Bryn Mawr's defense. At 64:38, the Owls' hard work paid off. Soon after a corner kick taken by da Silva, Lanie Thompson took a header toward the goal, but it hit the post. Sankar rebounded the shot, and the Owls celebrated as the sophomore forward's kick tied up the game.
- The Owls spent the remaining minutes of play in search of a second goal with shots by Sofia Huie-Pasigan, Sarah Walker, and da Silva. Despite the strong efforts, Huie-Pasigan's shot was sent wide and the final two shots were saved by Ursinus's goalkeeper and the game ended in a tie.
