Owls Record a 4-1 Win After a Scoreless First Half

BRYN MAWR, PA – The Bryn Mawr soccer programmed collected a 4-1 win earlier Saturday afternoon as they welcomed Gwynedd Mercy to Applebee Field. After a scoreless first half, Rece Anton and Beatriz da Silva each scored on a penalty kick while Sarah Walker scored her first career. Gwynedd Mercy collected their lone goal in the final minutes of the game, but it was not enough to overcome the Owls' three goal lead and Bryn Mawr recorded their fourth win of the season.

Highlights:
  • Bryn Mawr came out strong in the first half with three shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes of the game, but the Griffins' goalkeeper thwarted every scoring opportunity. The Owls' offense held possession for a majority of the remaining half, but neither team ticked the scoreboard and the teams entered halftime at 0-0.
  • The Griffins found the first scoring opportunity in the second half, but a high header proved to kick the Owls into gear. A minute later, the Owls received the first penalty kick of the game taken by Anton. Anton's shot pelleted past the Gwynedd Mercy goalkeeper and Bryn Mawr began their scoring spree. Seven minutes later, Sarah Walker collected her first career goal with an assist by Anton.
  • A Gwynedd Mercy foul resulted in Bryn Mawr's second penalty kick of the day, this time taken by da Silva. The first-year timed her shot perfectly to surge the Owls ahead with a three goal lead. Anton yet again played a key factor in Bryn Mawr's success today as the sophomore midfielder scored her second goal of the day and sixth of the season.
  • The Griffins rounded out the scoring with a goal in the remaining two minutes of the game, but a three goal lead for the Owls prevented any comeback chance before the horn blew to sound the end of the game. The Owls' strong offense today earned them a well deserved 4-1 win and moved Bryn Mawr to four wins in the season, their most wins since 2019.
