BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr basketball team competed in their first game of 2024 as they welcomed the Green Terror of McDaniel to campus. Junior captain
Jessica Smith led Bryn Mawr with 14 points, but the Owls were unable to overcome the 27 point lead the Green Terror earned in the first half, and McDaniel extended their record to 9-2 for a 72-34 win.
Highlights:
- McDaniel made the first five of six baskets to take a 10-2 lead over the Owls in the opening minutes of the game. Bryn Mawr battled back to reduce the Green Terror's lead to two with jumpers made by Smith and first-years Jessica Silver and Cameron Richter. Richter and Smith each went on to make an additional basket, but McDaniel surged ahead for a 21-11 lead.
- The Green Terror scored the opening two baskets of the second quarter until first-year Owl Michelle Jiang scored her first points of the day for Bryn Mawr. Smith and Richter added to the Owls' scoreboard, but the Green Terror extended their lead to 46-19 entering halftime.
- The third quarter saw baskets from four Owls: Jiang, Kris Pasia, Hannah Govert, and Smith. Jiang and Pasia each made a three pointer to pump up the Owls' bench as they looked to quell the Green Terror lead.
- Bryn Mawr added six points to the scoreboard in the final 10 minutes with baskets by Richter, Pasia, and Smith, but it was not enough to overcome McDaniel's extensive lead.
Bryn Mawr will travel to Dickinson on Tuesday as they continue their Centennial Conference play.
