Tough Loss at Gettysburg for the Owls

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr basketball team travelled to Gettysburg on Saturday to compete against the Centennial Conference contender, the Bullets of Gettysburg. The Bullets stand second in the conference behind Johns Hopkins as they looked to extend their win streak to five. The Bullets' offense overwhelmed Bryn Mawr in the first half with a 33-point lead. Despite a better offensive showing in the second half, Gettysburg's lead proved insurmountable, 76-33.

Junior captain Jessica Smith led the Owls with 12 points and three steals while Reagan Chrencik and Skylar Reale led the Bullets with 13 points apiece.

Highlights:
  • Gettysburg made quick work of the first quarter with an 8-0 run in the opening minutes of the game until Smith scored the Owls' first basket with jumper in the paint. Three more Bryn Mawr baskets were made by Smith, fellow junior Hannah Binder, and first-year Daphne Bracker-Sturm.
  • Binder proved to be the lone scorer for Bryn Mawr in the second quarter with two jumpers. Gettysburg added 20 points to the scoreboard to round out the first half.
  • Returning from halftime, five Owls made baskets in the third quarter. Binder began the scoring with a jumper in the paint three minutes in followed with a basket by first-year Cameron Richter. After a missed three pointer for the Bullets, Smith made a fastbreak off the rebound and added to Bryn Mawr's scoreboard with a jumper. A minute later, Bracker-Sturm collected a layup followed by Hannah Govert's first basket of the game.
  • The Bullet defense held strong in the opening minutes of the final stanza to swart the Owls' first four shot attempts until junior Kris Pasia made a three pointer for the Owls at 6:02 left on the clock. In the final two minutes of the game, Smith collected three baskets while Pasia recorded two made free throws.
The Owls will next welcome Ursinus on Wednesday for an evening game at the Class of 1958 Gymnasium.
