BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr basketball team welcomed the Fords of Haverford to the Class of 1958 Gymnasium on Thursday evening for a Centennial Conference match-up. Similar to Tuesday's game at Dickinson, the Owls' defense was unable to contain their opposing team's efficient offense, which proved to be the deciding factor of the game. Haverford took the win 58-28.
Junior captain
Jessica Smith led Bryn Mawr with 16 points while Sophie Baker led Haverford with 12 points.
Highlights:
- Smith led the Owls in the first quarter with the first basket of the game at 0:30 on a jumper in the paint followed by two free throws and a three-pointer. Junior Hannah Binder tallied her own basket for Bryn Mawr, but Haverford came out charging with three three-pointers to gain a 16 point lead in the opening 10 minutes.
- The first two minutes of the second quarter remained scoreless until junior Kris Pasia made a three-pointer for the Owls. Yet, the Fords' defense proved impenetrable as the Owls did not see another basket until the final seconds of the quarter with a made jumper by Smith and Haverford extended their lead to 35-14 to wrap the first half.
- Michelle Jiang and Smith each made three baskets, including a three-pointer for each Owl in the second half. Despite the Fords' offense, Bryn Mawr proved resilient and continued to chip away at Haverford's lead until the whistle blew.
Bryn Mawr travels to Gettysburg this Saturday for their first game against the Bullets this season.
