First Time Bryn Mawr Keeps Gettysburg Under 20 Points Since 2016

Maddie Sullivan scored the Owls’ first goal of the game.

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Owls kept the 13-time Centennial Conference Champions, the Bullets of Gettysburg, under 20 goals for the first time since 2016 earlier Saturday afternoon in a home game on Applebee Field. Maddie Sullivan '25 scored the Owls' first goal of the game, but the Bullets took a 14-1 lead at halftime. The Owls' defense proved relentless in the second half, quelling their opponent's offense, only allowing the Bullets to score five goals throughout the third and fourth quarter. Despite the Owls' impressive defense in the second half, Gettysburg won (19-4).

The Bullets took an early nine run lead in the first 10 minutes of the game until Maddie Sullivan '25 scored Bryn Mawr's first goal at the end of the first quarter.

Gettysburg, who is currently ranked ninth in the IWLCA DIII Coaches Poll, scored another five goals to take a 14-1 lead by the start of halftime.

The Owls tripled their score in the second half with Maya DiFrishia '23 scoring in the third quarter and Charlene Basque '26 and Camille Franklin '24 each scoring in the fourth quarter.

The Owls' defense also worked hard in the second half and only allowed Gettysburg to add five to the scoreboard.

With 1:55 minutes remaining in the game, Sophie Showers scored Gettysburg's 19th goal. The Bullets looked to score at least once more in the remaining minutes of the game, but the Owls refused to allow Gettysburg another goal in the back of the cage. Despite a 19-4 win for Gettysburg, the day's game marked the first time since 2016 that Bryn Mawr kept Gettysburg under 20 goals.

Gettysburg improves their record to 9-3 while Bryn Mawr drops to 5-6.

Bryn Mawr will take a quick break from conference play to welcome Trinity (D.C.) to campus on Wednesday afternoon.
