BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Owls welcomed non-conference Trinity D.C. University to campus on Wednesday afternoon for what would become a game full of firsts for the Owls. Three Owls scored their first collegiate goals:
Morgan Nash '23, Natalie Peterson '23, and
Krista Chan '26. Goalkeeper
Erica James '26 played in the cage for the first game this season and made her first collegiate save.
Fiona McHale '25 also earned her first assist of the season. In addition to the excitement of firsts, the Owls earned their first shutout of the season (22-0).
Charlene Basque '26 began the Owls' dominance less than a minute into the first quarter with her fourth goal of the season, assisted by
Meghan O'Shea '23. The scoring continued for the Owls as O'Shea scored a hattrick in the first quarter alone.
Paige Britton '23 rounded out the quarter with her fifth goal of the season.
Bryn Mawr's offense commanded the second quarter with five more goals and a goalkeeper change, with
Riley Alexander replacing fellow senior
Elizabeth Tompkins. Two of the Owls' leading scorers
Maya DiFrischia '23 (17) and
Camille Franklin (24) each saw the back of the cage before Peterson scored her first career goal with the Owls.
Chessa MacGregor '25 tallied her second goal of the game followed by a goal by Nash who recorded her first collegiate goal to give the Owls a 17-0 lead.
After a slow offensive start to the third quarter, the Owls tallied three more goals in the remaining seven minutes of the quarter. Assisted by Britton, O'Shea recorded her 15
th goal of the season to extend Bryn Mawr's lead. Leading by 18, Head Owls Coach Michi Ellers sent in the Owls' youngest goalkeeper, first-year
Erica James. Bryn Mawr scored another two goals in the third quarter by Basque who scored her second goal of the game and
Maddie Sullivan '25 who scored her 15
th goal of the season.
Three Owls continued the excitement with more firsts in the fourth quarter. After attempting her first shot, Chan earned a free position shot. With three seconds left on the shot clock and the team cheering and chanting her name, the first year charged the cage. To the excitement of everyone, Chan found the back of the net and recorded her first collegiate goal. In the remaining two minutes of the game, Trinity D.C. took their final shot of the day, but it was saved by James who recorded a collegiate first save. McHale rounded out the excitement of firsts for the Owls with her first career assist as
Margot Becker '24 scored the last goal of the game. The Owls' strong offense resulted in the team's first shutout of the season (22-0).
Bryn Mawr now moves to 6-6 on the season.
The Bryn Mawr lacrosse program will return to conference play on Saturday for an away game at Ursinus.
