HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Owls played under the lights at Haverford on Thursday in their first night game and final away game of the 2023 season. After a slow start in the first half, Bryn Mawr overcame the rainy conditions as the Owls' defense tightened their play and
Camille Franklin '24 led the offense with four goals in the second half. However, it was not enough to overcome the first half deficit and the Owls fell to the Fords 16-6.
Haverford Tiffany Mikulis opened the day's scoring in the early minutes of the game.
Maddie Sullivan '25 and
Maya DiFrischia '23 each had shot attempts, but none connected, and the Fords extended their lead to six in the first quarter.
Both defensives held strong in the opening minutes of the second quarter until Haverford Sam Silverman earned a free position shot to score. Two minutes later, the Owls finally got on the scoreboard with a goal by Sullivan. Unfortunately, this would be the Owls' lone goal of the half while the Fords tallied four more goals to lead 11-1 at halftime.
Returning from halftime, the Owls soon proved themselves a force to be reckoned with as their offense pushed their tempo and their defense worked together in a cohesive unit. At 5:34 in the third quarter, Franklin scored her first of four goals and soon followed up with another goal in the last seconds of the quarter, assisted by
Meghan O'Shea '23.
Bryn Mawr battled until the last seconds of the game. Franklin scored an additional two goals and DiFrischia scored less than two minutes before the final whistle. However, Haverford's lead proved too great, and Bryn Mawr lost 16-6.
Despite the loss, numerous Owls held their own in tough weather conditions.
Sophie Sangster '23, Sullivan, and
Orli McGuire-Berk '25 played a huge role on the draw control to give their team multiple offensive opportunities. Sangster also tallied two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Elizabeth Tompkins '23 had seven saves and four groundballs in the cage.
The Owls will return on Saturday for their last game of the season to compete against Franklin & Marshall on Applebee Field.
