BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr tennis program earned their second conference win of the season as they played a home match against the Ursinus Bears earlier Friday afternoon. Prior to the match, the team honored graduate student
Nicole Lim who joined the team at the beginning of the spring season. The Owls led 2-1 after doubles and recorded four wins at singles for a 6-3 victory against the Bears.
Doubles:
- Kelli Eng '26 and Sophie Fenster '26 brought home the first of six wins for the Owls at third doubles (8-1).
- Wynn Bryant '24 and Lowrey West '25 battled at second doubles but could not manage another Bryn Mawr win (8-3).
- Graduate student Nicole Lim and Fernanda Hurtado '25 soon stepped off the court at first double with the Owls' second win of the day to lead the match 2-1 against the Ursinus Bears.
Singles:
- After a doubles win, Lim stepped on the court fully warmed up and prepared for her singles match in the first position. The Owl won her first set with ease (6-0) and soon found herself up in the second set. Playing on the offense with multiple opportunities to win points at the net, Lim won the second set 6-2.
- Hurtado had a close match at fourth doubles, but the Owl prevailed to win the first set 7-5. The sophomore maintained the lead in the second set to eventually win 6-2.
- Eng once again proved herself one of the Owls' most reliable and consistent players. Taking the first set 6-3, the first year went on to win the second 6-4 for the Owls fifth win of the day at six singles.
- Kelly Cole '24 struggled in the opening set at fifth singles and was unable to manage a game against her opponent. However, the typically quiet Owl came alive in the second set with multiple powerful shots and fists pumps. The junior brought the second set into a tiebreak, but Ursinus prevailed to win the tiebreak 7-2.
- The Owls claimed one more win against Ursinus. West pulled out the first set at third singles (7-5). However, Ursinus fought back to win the second set (6-4) and bring the match into a third set. However, West's strong serve and deep shots led the sophomore to a third set win (6-2).
- Although the Owls claimed the win, one more match remained on court. Bryant won her first set 6-4 but dropped the second set in a tiebreak. As the match had already been decided in the Owls' favor, the third set would be played as a ten-point tiebreak. Unfortunately, Bryant trailed in the tiebreak and eventually lost the match.
The Owls 6-3 win against Ursinus moves them to 8-6 for the season.
The tennis program will compete in another conference match tomorrow at Muhlenberg.
