COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr women's lacrosse team exploded for four goals in the final 3:06 of regulation on Saturday, but the furious finish was not enough to overcome a first-half deficit as the Owls fell to Ursinus 18-11.
The Bears improve to 7-6 overall, 3-2 in Centennial Conference play, while Bryn Mawr drops to 6-7, 0-5 in Conference.
After pregame Senior Day ceremonies, the home standing Bears raced out to a 3-0 advantage before Sloan Johnson '23 converted a free position to light the scoreboard for Bryn Mawr.
But the first of four Johnson goals did little to stem the Ursinus momentum as they answered back 22 seconds later.
Camille Franklin '24 buried her first of four goals and Johnson added a second in the last minute of the period to close the deficit to 6-3, but a buzzer-beating goal by Reilly Morgan, who tied for the team lead with five goals on the day, sent the Bears to the second quarter up 7-3.
Quick Ursinus starts and late Owl pushes proved the day's motif, as the second quarter echoed the first. Six consecutive Bear goals to open the frame pushed the margin to 10 at 13-3, before Franklin scored twice in the final 90 seconds to end the half at 13-5.
Four of give goals in the third quarter went to Ursinus, who opened their largest lead of the game at 17-6 headed into the fourth. But a resilient Bryn Mawr responded by controlling much of the final period, including the late flurry with a pair of goals 19 seconds apart from Maya DiFrischia '23. Paige Britton '23 capped the scoring just before the final horn.
Elizabeth Tompkins '23 made eight saves in goal for Bryn Mawr and Charlene Basque '26 matched her career high with three assists for the second consecutive game.
Morgan Nash '23 and Maddie Sullivan '25 led the Owls with two ground balls apiece.
Bryn Mawr returns to the turf on Wednesday, hosting Washington College at 4:30 PM. Prior to the opening draw, the Owls will recognize the Class of 2023 with a Senior Day ceremony.
