Bryn Mawr Drops Conference Match to Gettysburg

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Owls' tennis program competed in another tough conference match on Tuesday afternoon against the Bullets of Gettysburg. Graduate student Nicole Lim won her doubles match with Fernanda Hurtado '25 at first doubles and picked up another win at first singles. Kelli Eng '26 also saw a win at sixth singles to maintain her undefeated status at six singles. The Owls played one of their most competitive matches of the season, but it was the Bullets who earned the conference win 6-3.

Doubles:
  • Gettysburg took the first win of the day at second doubles as Owls Wynn Bryant '24 and Lowrey West '25 dropped 8-2.
  • Lim and Hurtado had a tight match at first doubles against Andrea Brazyte and Gillian Rozenfeld of Gettysburg before finally pulling away for an 8-5 win, the Owls first of the day.
  • Kelly Cole '24 and Eng battled at third doubles but lost in a tiebreaker to give the Bullets a 2-1 lead going into singles.
Singles:
  • The Owls had an impressive day at singles with all players in tight matches.
  • Gettysburg won the first singles match of the day at fourth singles with Owls Cole falling 6-1, 6-4.
  • Next to finish were West and Hurtado at third and fourth singles respectively.
  • After five matches won, Gettysburg claimed victory. However, three matches were still on court: Lim at first singles, Bryant at second, and Eng at sixth each entered a third set.
  • Lim once again proved herself worthy of a first singles position. After dropping the first set, the graduate student composed herself and battled back to win the match in a third set tiebreak (4-6, 6-3, 10-2).
  • Bryant won the first set but was unable to close the match in the second set. Already in the third set once the match had been decided, the junior and her opponent continued to play out the set rather than beginning a tiebreak, as per NCAA rules. Unfortunately for the Owl, it was Sarah Guistwite for Gettysburg that claimed the third set.
  • As per usual this season, Eng remained as one of the last matches on court. The first year lost the first set 6-4 but stunned her opponent with a second set win to bring the match into a third set tiebreak. Eng and her opponent traded points back and forth until Eng finally caught a break to win the tiebreak 10-7. The first-year remains undefeated at six singles with four wins.
Gettysburg won the match 6-3, but Bryn Mawr played a strong match, worthy of a Conference Championship bid this season.

The Owls will play their second home match of the week this Saturday against Ursinus.
