Owls Extend Win Streak To Three

Sloan Johnson, Meghan O’Shea, and Camille Franklin earned hat tricks in their second home game of the season.

BRYN MAWR – Bryn Mawr extended their win streak to three earlier Wednesday afternoon in their second home game of the season against the Mighty Macs of Immaculata. Sloan Johnson, Meghan O'Shea, and Camille Franklin each scored a hat trick. The Owls' goalkeeper Elizabeth Tompkins had an impressive day in the cage with 15 saves, her second highest of the season. Bryn Mawr held the lead throughout all four quarters and brought home victory (13-4).

The game was off to a slow start for the Owls as Immaculata's offense led the rally with six shots in the opening five minutes. However, the Owls' defense was prepared and Tompkins made three saves. After nine minutes with the scoreboard at a standstill, Immaculata Ava Hoffman shot through Tompkins to give the Mighty Macs their only lead of the game. Their lead would not last long as O'Shea scored for the Owls in the last two minutes of the quarter to tie the game.

Bryn Mawr was the only team to see the back of the cage in the second quarter. Receiving a ground pickup from attacker Camille Franklin at midfield, Johnson noticed an opening through Immaculata's defense. Sprinting to the Mighty Macs' defensive line, Johnson shot down into the goalkeeper's feet, and unable to manage a block, Johnson scored her first goal of the game and gave the Owls the lead. Franklin had her own goal a minute later, but from there it was only Johnson who ticked the scoreboard in the remainder of the half. Within two minutes, Johnson scored two more goals and earned herself a hat trick. Neither team scored in the remaining six minutes of the half and the Owls led 5-1 going into halftime.

The third quarter proved to be the highest scoring quarter of the game with a total of eight goals scored. Mighty Mac Carly Oberg opened the half, followed by Franklin and O'Shea, each with their second goal of the game. Although Kaitlyn Klitchko and Jacki Murray of Immaculata each added to the scoreboard, the Owls' defense prevailed, and they refused to allow another Immaculata goal during the rest of the game. As for the Owls, they scored three goals in three consecutive minutes. O'Shea recorded her second goal of the quarter and the Owls' second player to earn a hat trick on the day, while Orli McGuire-Berk added two goals.

The Owls led 10-4 as they entered the fourth quarter, but it would not be smooth sailing for either team. The Mighty Macs took multiple shots, but Bryn Mawr's defense proved stronger, and Tompkins tallied seven saves in the fourth quarter alone. The Owls' offense was not done either. Franklin earned a hat trick and Maya DiFrischia scored twice in the last five minutes of the game. Without another Immaculata goal, the Owls won 13-4 to extend their win streak to three games.

Bryn Mawr will return to action on Saturday for their first conference game of the season against McDaniel College in Westminster, Md.
