Box Score BRYN MAWR, Pa. – It was another tough Centennial Conference showdown for the Bryn Mawr basketball program earlier Thursday night at home. The Owls returned to the court in their first game since last Saturday, welcoming Ursinus to the Class of 1958 Gymnasium. Ursinus held Bryn Mawr to just four points in the first half, but the Owls rebounded in the third and fourth quarter, almost quintupling their score by the end of the game (62-18).
It was a tough start right from the jump, as the Bears took a 10-0 lead before Hannah Binder got the Owls on the board with a layup on an assist from Sena Kaper-Dale. That would be the only scoring of the first quarter for the Owls. Kaper-Dale got the Owls' next points on a layup, but unfortunately, the Bear's suffocating defense proved difficult for Bryn Mawr to crack, and Ursinus ultimately took a 34-4 lead to the locker room at the end of the half.
The second half proved a bit better for the Owls with Alanna Mora-Mickens and Hannah Govert doubling Bryn Mawr's scoring output in the third frame alone. Bryn Mawr continued to add to the scoreboard in the fourth quarter, adding eight points for their strongest offensive quarter of the game. Returning to the basket after an Ursinus made jumper, Govert got the Owls back on the scoreboard. This appeared to improve Bryn Mawr's morale as Binder would soon follow with two made shots to bring her to six points on the day. In the remaining minute, Aliya Stubenbord made her first points of the game, but it would be the team's last. Ursinus added an additional four points before the buzzer sounded, and the visiting Bears took home the win 62-18.
"The team played hard today," said head coach Carla Coleman. "We made some adjustments at halftime, and they came out and executed it very well."
The Owls will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Swarthmore for a 1pm start time.
