Owls Suffer A Conference Loss At McDaniel

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Bryn Mawr basketball program took the road for a conference game against the Green Terror of McDaniel on Saturday. McDaniel's Mallory Conroy led the game with 16 points, while Hannah Binder led the Owls with eight points. Meggie Burgess and Sena Kaper-Dale led their respective squads in rebounds with Burgess tallying 13 and Kaper-Dale tallying 10. Bryn Mawr had a strong day at the line, making 10 out of 13 free throws (76.9%), but it was not enough to overcome McDaniel's offense (73-29).

The Owls opened the game with Alanna Mora-Mickens, Hannah Binder, and Sena Kaper-Dale. Joining them were Kris Pasia and Ella Kotsen who have started every game of the season (18). Due to recent injuries, Bryn Mawr is down to a seven-person roster with Aliya Stubenbord and Hannah Govert on reserve. The Owls tied the game twice in the first quarter, Binder and Kaper-Dale making the Owls' first four points of the game, but the Green Terrors' offense was ultimately able to pull away, and Bryn Mawr did not see another tie for the remainder of the game.

However, Bryn Mawr had a few notable offensive and defensive highlights throughout the game. Bryn Mawr shot 76.9 percent from the line, earning a total of 10 points. After two missed free throws in the first quarter from Pasia, Binder and Kaper-Dale excelled in the second quarter. All four free throws found the basket to improve both sophomores' season free throw percentage to 73.1 and 60 percent respectively. Kotsen and Pasia followed suit in the third quarter, and Stubenbord in the fourth, to add an additional six points to the Owls' score.

Kaper-Dale had another great day under the hoop, tallying six offensive and four defensive rebounds. The sophomore's total rebounds now stand at 101 on the season. Kaper-Dale also recorded two steals, along with Stubenbord who tallied two of her own. Despite their efforts, McDaniel had the stronger offensive day and the Green Terror won on their home court 73-29.

After the game Coach Carla Coleman noted her team's flexibility and strong effort, particularly in light of recent injuries. "Some players were playing different positions but adjusted very well," said Coach Coleman. "Great effort today from everyone."

Bryn Mawr will return on Tuesday evening as they travel to Carlisle, Pa. to compete against Dickinson College in the schools' first of two meetings the season.
