LANCASTER, Pa. – Junior
Jessica Smith led the game with 16 points in Bryn Mawr's away competition at Franklin & Marshall earlier Saturday afternoon at Mayser Center. Despite the 18-point loss, Bryn Mawr competed in their strongest game against Franklin & Marshall since the Owls' wins against the Diplomats in the 2006-2007 season (47-45).
Highlights:
- First-year Hannah Mack and Smith each notched two baskets in the first 10 minutes of the game. A layup by Diplomats Ally Trebelev in the final 0:35 seconds of the quarter helped the home team to a three-point lead at 11-8.
- Mack tied the competition for the second time to open the second with a 3-pointer. From there, the Diplomats took a 9-0 surge ahead for a 20-11 lead at the 16:00 minute mark. Smith netted a jumper to halt the Diplomat run and fellow junior Hannah Binder rounded out the scoring for the first half with her own jumper in the remaining 0:34 seconds.
- Owls Michelle Jiang opened the second half with a layup in the paint and Smith added five more points to Bryn Mawr's scoreboard, but for the next 5:14 minutes, the Owls did not see a basket.
- Three Owls made baskets in the final stanza but were outshot by Franklin & Marshall. Binder earned the final basket of the game with 0:03 seconds left on the clock to bring the game score to 50-32 in the home team's favor.
The Bryn Mawr basketball team will compete in their last away competition before the winter break on Thursday evening in a conference match-up against Washington College.
