Off Day for the Owls at Washington College

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Bryn Mawr basketball team had an off day as they traveled to Washington College earlier Thursday afternoon for their final away game of 2023. Cameron Richter led the Owls with nine points, two of which were 3-pointers. However, an 18-0 for the Shorwomen in the first half foreshadowed the eventual win for Washington College, 71-37.

Highlights:
  • The Shorewomen took a 4-0 lead in the opening minutes of the first quarter until first-year Michelle Jiang netted the Owls' first points at 2:30. Neither team saw the net again until Richter made a 3-pointer to give Bryn Mawr a 5-4 lead at 5:18. The Owls managed to keep their lead for 41 seconds until Washington College Abby Meredith made a jumper to retake the home team's lead.
  • The teams kept a tight second quarter with Washington College only outshooting Bryn Mawr 19-15 to extend their lead to 13 points. Kris Pasia and Jessica Smith paced the Owls in the second as Pasia made two 3-pointers and Smith added six to the scoreboard.
  • The Shorewomen extended their lead to 20 at the start of the second half before Jiang netted a 3-pointer to quell the home team's advancement. Richter would go on to make three free throws alongside two baskets by Hannah Mack in the third.
  • Washington College outpaced Bryn Mawr with eight baskets before sophomore Hannah Govert ticked the Owls' scoreboard with a free throw at 2:15 left on the clock. The Owls made the final two baskets of the game by a jumper from Hannah Binder at 52 seconds and Mack with a 3-pointer at 13 seconds.
The Owls will return to campus for their final home game of 2023 on Saturday as they welcome Swarthmore to the Class of 1958 Gymnasium.
