Game Recap: Basketball |

Basketball Makes History with a First Quarter Lead off Johns Hopkins

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr basketball team won the opening quarter against the Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins for the first time in program history earlier Thursday evening in the Class of 1958 Gymnasium. The game remained tight throughout, with Bryn Mawr never letting up steam, before Johns Hopkins won the evening 67-39.
  • Jessica Smith made the first basket of the game, a sign of good things to come for Bryn Mawr. The Owls held the lead for the majority of the first quarter, soon taking a 13-11 lead.
  • First-year Hannah Mack extended the Owls' lead to four at the start of the second quarter. From there, the Blur Jays would go on to tie the game at 15-15 before taking their own 11 point lead late in the second. Yet, a 3-pointer by Michelle Jiang calmed Johns Hopkins to a small lead of seven at the start of halftime.
  • Returning from the half, Bryn Mawr did not tick the scoreboard until three minutes in when Kris Pasia made two free throws. Mack added a jumper and two made free throws to bring Bryn Mawr to 30 points.
  • Bryn Mawr held Johns Hopkins to seven baskets in the final stanza to keep the visiting team under 70 points at the end of the game. Smith and Mack each added two buckets, with Mack making a 3-pointer to round out the Owls' scoring at 39 points.
The Owls will travel to Franklin & Marshall on Saturday for a 1pm game to continue their conference play.
